Chalmers University of Technology is approved by Nautical Institute to provide DP courses according to their training standard.  From 1st of January 2015 It’s required to revalidate a DP certificate issued by the Nautical Institute every 5 year. The DP Revalidation Course is a new option to revalidate if 150 DP days is not achieved during those 5 years, it could also be a relevant course to take if a DPO hasn’t been engaged in DP operations for some time and needs a update on working practices, DP system knowledge and latest rules and regulations.

The DP revalidation course may be completed up to 6 months before the revalidation date set by the Nautical Institute

If the participant is completing the course for the first time, there is no minimum DP sea time required

If the participant is completing the course for a second and subsequent time, a minimum of 28 days DP sea time will be required. The DP sea time may be completed prior to or after the revalidation course.

Legacy and Grandfathered certificate holders will be able to take the course to revalidate until the 31th of December 2019.

The Revalidation of DP certificate will be phased as follows (According to Nautical Institute):

2015: Revalidation of DP certificates issued from 1984 to 2002, 2009 and 2010

2016: Revalidation of DP certificates issued from 2003 to 2004 and 2011

2017: Revalidation of DP certificates issued from 2005 to 2006 and 2012

2018: Revalidation of DP certificates issued from 2007 to 2008 and 2013

2019: Revalidation of DP certificates issued in 2014 and so on

The course will have a 50/50 mix between theory and practical exercises, real DP simulators will be used. The overall course aim is to update the DPO’s with the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensor, known DP incidents and lessons learned

At the end of the course the participant should:

  • Have acquired knowledge of the latest rules and regulations
  • Have acquired knowledge of the latest developments within sensors and PRS

  • Have acquired knowledge of the latest relevant DP incidents and why they occurred

  • Be able to recognize the various alarm, warning and information messages

  • Carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks

  • Set up the DP system for a particular task/operation

  • Decide on courses of action because of systems failure

The Assessment of the course includes a theoretical (online) and a practical (individually in the simulator). Each part must be completed successfully and after completion an entry will be made in the appropriate logbook and a course certificate will be issued.

To do before the course start:

At least 2 weeks in advance send a copy of your certificate of competence (CoC) and your DPO certificate to Chalmers Professional for verification

The Participant will need to present the original DP certificate and DP logbook when the course start

A Strong recommendation before the course start is to read about DP and information regarding DP training on the webpage from Nautical Institute.   http://www.nialexisplatform.org
